Hi there Donald, nice to see you. I don’t think interracial friendships are impossible; I do think that it’s much easier to remain superficial because we avoid addressing painful issues of privilege and yes, justice.
Justice is political, cultural, economic, etc., but it (or the lack of it) affects the daily lives of White people and Black people (and all marginalized groups) in far different ways. It informs our view of “other” people, and it impacts our ability to communicate and trust.
I am relentlessly optimistic about eventually bringing down the barriers :-). Everyone has a role to play on the demolition team. Thanks for reading.
